PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC TESTING

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing is a reproductive technology used with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) for the testing of genetic diseases in the early embryo prior to implantation and pregnancy.

WHAT IS PGT?

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing was developed to prevent the transfer of serious genetic disorders and to establish gender. It is a two-stage process consisting of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and genetic screening.

WHO NEEDS PGT?

PGT can significantly reduce the chances for your baby to be affected by a specific genetic condition or chromosomal abnormality. We will be able to test for more common genetic diseases in the near future too.

• Family Balancing/Gender Selection
• Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
• Recurrent Implantation Failure
• Family history of Abnormalities
• Previous Abnormal Pregnancy
• Affected Parents

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF SUCCESS?

Chances of conception (getting pregnant) are similar to IVF (70%).

HOW MANY ATTEMPTS OF PGT CAN BE MADE?

From a medical point of view, there is no limit on the number of attempts but one has to consider emotional and financial stress involved in this treatment.

IS PGT DONE FOR MALE BABIES ONLY?

No, PGT can be done for female babies as well.

IS PGT ALLOWED IN OUR RELIGION?

Yes for family balancing and to rule out any genetic disorders it is allowed by IICP (Islamic ideology Council of Pakistan)

IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF HAVING ABNORMALITY IN THE BABY AFTER PGT?

After PGT there are no additional risks.
