What Is IVF?

IVF stands for in vitro Fertilization”. This method has helped infertile couples since 1978 all over the world.

 

IVF is the process by which eggs are removed from the ovaries and mixed with sperms in a laboratory culture dish. Fertilisation takes place in this dish. “in vitro., which means “outside human body’. 6 million IVF babies have been born since the first in 1978.

Who needs IVF?

Previously IVF was used in conditions. such as blocked tubes. IVF is also recommended if simpler treatment fails. Below is a list of common indecations for IVF treatment.

What are the chances of success?

How long the treatment takes?

One cycle of IVF takes between four weeks and six weeks to complete. The couple can expect to spend about half a day at the clinic for egg retrieval and fertilization procedures.

Step by step IVF

1. Preliminary checkup of husband & wife
2. Baseline hormone levels of wife
3. Drugs treatment (injections) to stimulate egg growth
4. Ultrasound monitoring of treatment

  • To measure the growths of follicles
  • To adjust dose of drugs
  • Prevent Serious side effects (Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome)

5. Monitoring in carried out:

  • By trans vaginal ultrasound scanning (TVS)
  • By evaluation of hormones in blood

6. Egg pickup and incubation
7. Semen collection & Processing
8. Review of eggs after 24 hours for fertilization and division
9. Embryo transfer (ET)

Use of Donor's Sperm

We strictly use husband’s spermatozoa (male sperm) and Wife’s egg. Donor’s spermatozoa (male germs), egg and surrogacy facilities are not available in our clinic.

Are there any alternatives to this treatment?

For certain conditions this is the only option. If other options are possible then they should be utilized before undertaking this mode of management.

How long this procedure will take?

This treatment takes 4-6 weeks depending upon the type of drugs used for your treatment.

Is it painful?

No. it is not a painful procedure. There is no surgery or operation involved. Injections may cause sonic discomfort. Emotionally and psychologically it is stressful treatment.

Are there any side-effect of this procedure?

Slight weight gain may occur due to water retention but it is temporary and reversible.

How many visits to the clinic I have to pay?

Your visits to LIFE clinic depend upon protocols and your progress. usually 6 to 8 visits are required.

Unless contra indicated due to a medical condition all healthy diets are recommended especially fresh fruits, vegetables, plenty of water.

Is there any effect of extreme weather on the procedure?

All the drugs are kept strictly under controlled temperature and laboratory temperature is also continuously monitored. That’s why extreme weather doesn’t influence the outcome of this treatment If you take medicines with you to your home please ensure the medication is refrigerated and maintain the required temperature constantly. If necessary arrange a generator to keep the fridge running continuously.

What are the chances of my success?
The technology all over the world is the same, hence in good centers outcome is comparable with international standards.
I wish to have twins what are the chances?

Chances of multiple pregnancies are high in IVF/ICSI procedures. We transfer 1-3 embryos but the results cannot be guaranteed. However, twins and other multiple pregnancies carry higher risks of complications of pregnancies specially pre-mature births and new born baby risks

After IVF treatment how can a pregnancy test be performed?

Pregnancy test can be performed by urine test or blood test.

I had my tubes tied (sterilization) could I be a candidate for IVF?

Yes, you are a good IVF candidate. It can help you to have a baby without surgery for reversal of the tubal ligation.
