What is Testicular
Sperm Aspiration?
TESA is a brief, minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthesia. A fine needle is used to draw sperm-containing tissue directly from the testicle, bypassing the need for the sperm to travel through the reproductive tract at all.
It’s most commonly recommended for men with very low sperm counts or non-obstructive azoospermia, where production itself is limited rather than blocked, as well as for men who have had an unsuccessful PESA attempt. The tissue retrieved is processed by our embryology team and used fresh for ICSI, or frozen for a future IVF cycle.
